Deerhound Club Limited Show South (Special Classes) 2018 Critique

Thank you to the committee and the exhibitors for the chance to judge some of your hounds. A reasonable entry marred by absentees but that is the way of things these days. A lovely breed to be with and the entry provided a good challenge for me.

Special Not bred by Exhibitor. (12, 6)

1st. Hunkydory Bowie at Kilbourne. A young male with decent type obviously needing to mature and body up. Very good shape. Fair head and a good eye. Good neck. Decent ribbing. Very good balance and decent on the move. Could be a tad stronger behind.

2nd. Kilbourne Marie Claire at Kirjojax. Young female of a very similar type. Again needing to mature. Feminine head piece, good body and a balanced outline. Fair on the move.
3rd. Kilbourne Mistress Martha at Matahari.

Special Bred by Exhibitor. (15, 8)

Interesting class headed by three youngsters just out of puppy and all with good potential.

1st. Hyndsight How You Remind Me. Typical and of a good shape being slightly longer than tall. She is balanced fore and aft. Feminine head needing to develop as expected. Decent neck, ribbing appropriate for age. Flow from neck through her topline with slight rise and a drooping, yet not extreme, hindquarter was very pleasing. On the move she was positive fore and aft with some extension.

2nd. Hyndsight Endless Flight. Many of the same remarks apply. Although he has lovely extension on the move he is less positive and a little more wayward in front.
3rd. Hyndsight Restless Spirit. Difficult to put this one third as I loved almost everything about her and looking to the future she may well prove to be the best. However on the day I felt she was just a little too compact in shape, whether she will lengthen a tad was not within my remit to predict. Will watch all three with close interest.

Special Brace.

1st.Hyndsight. Two of the three youngsters from the previous class and very similar. Remarkably moved out well together.
2nd. Kirjojax. Close up, they too put up a good performance.
3rd Pyefleet. Not quite as close in type.
